Special Olympics Macarthur is the Marketfair Community Group of the
Month. You can help them receive up to $1,500 cash by leaving your
receipts in the barrel before 5pm on 30 November 2018.

Special Olympics began in Australia in 1976 with the aim of providing people
with an intellectual disability the opportunities to play sport.
Like the Olympics and Paralympics, Special Olympics believe in the power of sport to create a better world. Sports participation is a powerful force. It can shift the focus from disability to ability, from isolation to involvement.

Special Olympics is a year-round multi-sports program for people with an intellectual disability – of all cpabilities. Special Olympics Australia offers regular training in athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cricket, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, netball, sailing, softball, swimming, table tennis and winter sports that include Alpine Skiing, figure skating and snowboarding.

Each year there are also hundreds of competitions from local through to international competitions including the World Games which is hosted on a four-year cycle in summer and winter sports. During competitions, athletes are placed in divisions so that they compete against people of similar disability.
