Set yourself up for success in the kitchen for the rest of the season with these crafty cooking tips.

1. Well Dressed

Use up leftover bottles of salad dressing hanging around your fridge (check the use-by date first) for a speedy marinade for meats or an instant sauce for a stir-fry. Try balsamic salad dressing to marinate chicken and lamb or an Asian-style sesame dressing to add to pan-fried chicken or fish.

2. Souper Flavours

For an instant flavour hit, drizzle garlic-flavoured oil on toast then a sprinkle of sumac and serve with a hot soup. Pre-made soups are more than just a soup, they are a great speedy shortcut when used as a pasta sauce. Jazz up pre-made soups with shredded cooked chicken and a dollop of sun-dried tomato or basil pesto.

3. Become a Greater Grater

Loathe the idea of cleaning a grater? Place a sheet of baking paper over the sharp side of the kitchen utensil before grating ginger for zero mess and a quick clean-up.

4. Hash it Up

Cook a few extra hash browns and use them as a crunchy topping for a saucy bolognese bake.

5. Make Slow Cooking Fast

Combine cubed pumpkin, sweet potato, canned chickpeas, korma paste, coconut milk and cauliflower florets in a resealable plastic bag. Store in the fridge until ready to put in your slow cooker with the rest of your ingredients.

6. Meat-Free Monday

Swapping out protein is a good way to up your variety of plant-based foods. Instead of using chicken in a satay, swap it for firm tofu.

7. Take it Down

Winter vitality starts at the supermarket. Opt for low-fat dairy and no-added-salt canned tomatoes and legumes.
